Denne steinen er fra Snåsa. Den er en omdanna bergart.
Før omdanningen var grønnsteinen en basalt. Basalt er lava som har sprutet ut fra en vulkan og størknet på jordoverflata.
Når jordskorpeplatene kræsjet mot hverandre og laget fjellkjeder, ble basalten klemt og brent i varmen fra jorda. Etter denne påkjenningen kom basalten ut som en grønnstein.
Det er mineralene epidot og kloritt som gir den fine grønnfargen.
GREENSTONE
This stone is from Snåsa. It is a metamorphic rock.
Before the transformation, the greenstone was a basalt. Basalt is lava that has erupted from a volcano and solidified on the earth’s surface.
When the earth’s crustal plates crashed into each other and created mountain ranges, the basalt was squeezed and burned in the heat from the earth. After this stress, the basalt came out as a greenstone.
It is the minerals epidote and chlorite that give the nice green colour.
